What it is
Most Georgian procedures for foreigners depend on documents that are correctly translated, certified and, where required, apostilled or legalised. We organise notarised translations, help prepare powers of attorney and check what the receiving authority will accept.
Notaries in Georgia certify, among other things, powers of attorney, the authenticity of signatures and copies, translations of documents and the translator's signature on a translation, as listed by the Notary Chamber of Georgia.
Documents issued abroad usually need to be certified in the issuing country — with an apostille if both countries are parties to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention, or by consular legalisation otherwise — and then translated into Georgian with a notarised translation.
Documents issued in Georgia and intended for use abroad are apostilled or legalised by the Public Service Development Agency. The PSDA can also translate documents into several languages and certify the translations.
Who this is for
- Anyone submitting foreign documents to a Georgian authority — for marriage, residence permits, business registration or property.
- People who need a power of attorney to be represented in Georgia.
- People who need Georgian documents apostilled and translated for use abroad.
How we help
- Notarised translations of passports and of birth, marriage and divorce certificates.
- Drafting powers of attorney, with translation where needed.
- Translating foreign powers of attorney into Georgian.
- Organising the apostille or legalisation of Georgian documents.
- Other translations, in a range of languages — ask us about your language and timing.
How it works
- 1
Tell us the purpose
Which authority will receive the document, in which country and for which procedure.
- 2
Check the document chain
We confirm whether an apostille or legalisation is needed, in which country it must be done and what translation is required.
- 3
Translation and certification
The translation is prepared and certified by a notary according to the notary's requirements; some documents are certified only from the original.
- 4
Apostille, if needed
Georgian documents for use abroad are apostilled or legalised by the PSDA within the term you choose.
Details and documents
Documents
Depending on the task:
- The original document (notaries certify some documents, such as certificates and powers of attorney, only from the original).
- Your passport for identification at the notary.
- For a power of attorney: the details of the representative and the exact powers to be granted.
Requirements depend on the country that issued the document, the type of document and the receiving authority.
In person or remotely
A power of attorney can usually be prepared in advance, but signing it in front of a notary requires your personal attendance.
Important to know
- An apostille is not always needed and is not accepted everywhere: it applies only between parties to the Apostille Convention. Other countries require legalisation.
- The PSDA apostilles only documents issued in Georgia. Foreign documents must be apostilled or legalised in the country that issued them.
- Some documents cannot be apostilled by the PSDA — for example identity documents, driving licences and notarial acts certifying a copy or a translation.
- A translation that is accepted by one authority may not be accepted by another. Always tell us where the document will be used.
What to prepare for a consultation
- The document (or a scan for an initial check).
- The country and authority where it will be used.
- Your deadline.
- For powers of attorney: who will represent you and for what.

Questions
Do I always need an apostille?
No. It depends on where the document was issued and where it will be used. Between countries that are both parties to the Apostille Convention, an apostille is used; otherwise legalisation is usually required.
Can Georgia apostille my foreign birth certificate?
No. The PSDA apostilles documents issued in Georgia. A foreign document must be apostilled or legalised by the competent authority of the country that issued it.
How long does a notarised translation take?
It depends on the language, the length of the document and the notary's working hours. Simple documents can often be prepared within a day; we confirm timing when you send the document.
