What it is
Many international couples choose to register their marriage in Georgia. We help you check the requirements for your nationalities, prepare and translate the documents, arrange witnesses and accompany you on the day — while the registration itself is carried out by the Public Service Development Agency.
Marriage in Georgia is registered by the Public Service Development Agency (PSDA) — at a territorial office, a Public Service Hall branch or a Wedding House. Both persons must be at least 18 years old and file a joint written application. The registration takes place in the presence of two adult witnesses with full legal capacity.
Foreign citizens must also show that they are staying in Georgia lawfully. A foreign passport can be accepted without a Georgian translation if the personal data is transliterated in Latin characters; other foreign documents must be apostilled or legalised and come with a notarised Georgian translation.
If either person was married before, a document proving that the previous marriage has ended must be submitted. Under the Civil Code, a marriage cannot be registered if either person is still married to someone else.
Who this is for
- International couples — including couples with different citizenships — who want to marry in Georgia.
- Couples planning a specific date who want to know in advance what to bring.
- Couples who need the marriage certificate apostilled and translated for use in another country.
How we help
- Checking the requirements for your situation before you travel.
- Notarised translations of documents that need them.
- Arranging two witnesses, if you do not bring your own.
- Preparing the application and accompanying you at the registration.
- Apostille and translation of the Georgian marriage certificate for use abroad.
- Optional ceremony arrangements and an interpreter on the day (scope and price confirmed individually).
How it works
- 1
Tell us your situation
Citizenships, previous marriages, how and when you are entering Georgia and your preferred date and place.
- 2
Check the documents
We confirm which documents need an apostille or legalisation and a translation, and what proves your lawful stay.
- 3
Prepare the paperwork
Translations and notarisation are arranged; witnesses are confirmed.
- 4
Registration
Both of you attend in person with two witnesses and sign the joint application. Registration through a representative is not permitted.
- 5
After the registration
If you need the certificate abroad, we arrange the apostille (or legalisation) and a translation.
Details and documents
Documents
Generally required (PSDA):
- A joint written application of both persons.
- Identity documents of both persons and of the two witnesses.
- A document proving lawful stay in Georgia (for foreign citizens).
- If either person was previously married: a document proving that the marriage ended (for example a divorce certificate or a death certificate).
- Foreign documents other than the passport: apostilled or legalised, with a notarised Georgian translation.
Apostille and legalisation rules depend on the country that issued the document. We check them for each document.
In person or remotely
Both persons must attend personally. The PSDA states that marriage registration through a representative is not permitted.
Important to know
- A previous marriage must always be disclosed. If you were married before, the PSDA requires a document proving that the marriage ended — whether or not your passport shows a stamp.
- We cannot promise a particular date or time slot until the agency confirms availability and your documents are complete.
- Whether your Georgian marriage is recognised in your home country is governed by that country's law. Check with its authorities before you travel.
- If the marriage certificate will be used abroad, it may need an apostille or legalisation depending on the destination country.
What to prepare for a consultation
- Copies of both passports (the personal-data page).
- Your planned entry date and basis of stay in Georgia.
- Details of any previous marriage and the documents proving it ended.
- Your preferred date, city and type of registration (with or without ceremony).
- The country where you will use the marriage certificate.

Questions
Can we register on the day we arrive?
That depends on the agency's availability and on whether all documents are ready in advance. Please contact us early so we can check your documents before you travel.
Do we need to bring our own witnesses?
Two adult witnesses with full legal capacity are required. You can bring your own or we can arrange them.
One of us was married before, but there is no stamp in the passport. What do we need?
A document proving that the previous marriage ended is required in every case where a person was previously married. We will help you obtain the right document and its apostille and translation.
Is registration free?
Registration without special ceremony services at a territorial office or Public Service Hall is free of charge. Translations, apostilles, ceremonies and our services are paid separately.
