What it is
If your spouse, child or parent already holds a Georgian residence permit, you can obtain a residence permit via family reunification. It is one of the most accessible grounds: you need neither a business nor property. We translate your marriage or kinship documents, prepare the file and submit the application together with you.
A family reunification residence permit is issued to family members of a foreigner who already holds a Georgian residence permit, and to family members of Georgian citizens. As a rule, its term does not exceed the term of the permit held by the person you are reuniting with.
Spouses of Georgian citizens have a separate type of residence permit with its own rules and fee. We will tell you which ground works better in your situation.
Who this is for
- Spouses of Georgian residence permit holders.
- Minor children of residence permit holders.
- Parents of a minor child who holds a residence permit.
- People under the guardianship of a residence permit holder who need permanent care.
- Spouses and family members of Georgian citizens.
Who can get a family reunification residence permit
- The spouse of a foreigner with a Georgian residence permit.
- Minor children of a residence permit holder.
- Parents of a minor child with a residence permit.
- Legally incapacitated people under the guardianship of a residence permit holder — with an official medical opinion.
Marriage and kinship documents
If the marriage was registered in Georgia, the Georgian marriage certificate is enough — no translation is needed. Documents issued abroad must be apostilled or legalised and translated into Georgian with notarisation. We do the translation ourselves, so we know the agency's requirements for the wording.
Financial conditions
The agency checks that the family can support itself. In practice a statement from the applicant's personal bank account with a balance of about 6,000 GEL is enough. The higher the amount, the stronger the application looks.
What a Georgian residence permit gives you
- Living in Georgia without visa runs or leaving every 365 days.
- A foreigner's identity card (binadroba) — the resident ID card.
- An electronic signature and access to public services on my.gov.ge.
- The option to bring your family on the family-reunification ground.
- Applying for visas at embassies in Georgia as a resident.
- A path to permanent residence and citizenship in the future.
What to do after the permit is approved
After approval you need to obtain the resident ID card (binadroba) and register at a residential address — that is, temporary address registration (propiska) in Georgia. If you do not own a home, the owner's consent is required. We help with both the registration and the card.
Extending the residence permit
To extend the permit, you must again meet the conditions of your ground or apply on a different ground — for example, switch from an IE to real estate or employment. It is best to apply early, no later than 40 days before your lawful stay ends. Extension is possible remotely, by power of attorney.
