What it is
A residence permit via an individual entrepreneur (IE) is the most popular residence permit among people who run a business in Georgia. If your IE's turnover over the last 12 months has reached 50,000 GEL, you can obtain a work residence permit as an entrepreneur. We check the turnover, obtain the work permit, prepare the tax documents and file the application together with you.
A residence permit for an individual entrepreneur is issued as a work residence permit. The key condition is a business turnover in Georgia of at least 50,000 GEL over 12 months. Any 12 consecutive months count, not the calendar year: if the threshold is reached earlier, you do not have to wait for the year to end.
Since 1 March 2026 you also need a work permit (permission to carry out labour activities) to apply. We arrange it as a separate service or together with the residence permit.
Who this is for
- IEs with a turnover of 50,000 GEL or more over the last 12 months.
- Freelancers and entrepreneurs who live in Georgia and want to stop doing visa runs.
- People whose residence permit on another ground is expiring.
Conditions for a residence permit via an IE
To obtain a residence permit as an entrepreneur, you need to show real activity in Georgia and financial means. The main criterion is an IE turnover of at least 50,000 GEL over 12 months. If other foreigners who also apply for residence permits work in the business, the threshold rises: 50,000 GEL for each of them.
Turnover is confirmed with documents from the Revenue Service and bank statements. The agency also looks at your personal bank account: in practice a statement with a balance of about 15,000 GEL is requested. The money does not have to stay on the account for the whole review period — a statement on the filing date is enough.
Work permit for a residence permit via an IE
Since 1 March 2026 a work residence permit is issued only to people who hold the right to work. So you first obtain a work permit and then apply for the residence permit. We arrange both documents one after the other and tell you the deadlines so that you file on time.
What a Georgian residence permit gives you
- Living in Georgia without visa runs or leaving every 365 days.
- A foreigner's identity card (binadroba) — the resident ID card.
- An electronic signature and access to public services on my.gov.ge.
- The option to bring your family on the family-reunification ground.
- Applying for visas at embassies in Georgia as a resident.
- A path to permanent residence and citizenship in the future.
How long a residence permit via an IE is issued for
On the first application a residence permit via an IE is usually issued for one year. On extension the term can be longer. You can extend on the same ground if the turnover is maintained, or on a different ground.
What to do after the permit is approved
After approval you need to obtain the resident ID card (binadroba) and register at a residential address — that is, temporary address registration (propiska) in Georgia. If you do not own a home, the owner's consent is required. We help with both the registration and the card.
Extending the residence permit
To extend the permit, you must again meet the conditions of your ground or apply on a different ground — for example, switch from an IE to real estate or employment. It is best to apply early, no later than 40 days before your lawful stay ends. Extension is possible remotely, by power of attorney.
